“End the debate”, reads the tagline of 2K Sports’ latest and most highly-anticipated release to date, NBA2K12, and end the debate was exactly what Canberra Secondary Schools’ sextet of Jacky Lim, Chia King Siong, Tommy Pang, Lim Sze Bin, Adrian Brent and Jesse Ian A. Lapuz did, as they took home the inaugural NBA2K12 Ultimate B-Ball Challenge as well as S$10,000 for their school in sponsorship prize.
The innovative competition was held at Bedok View Secondary School, and featured 12 schools and 72 students going up against each other in three categories of play: a 3-on-3 street basketball-styled match, a 2-on-2 debate on the topic of “Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James – who is the greatest and why?”, and a 1-on-1 NBA2K12 video game quick match.
Jointly organised by Ash Media Asia and 2K Sports, the NBA2K12 Ultimate B-Ball Challenge proved a resounding success in its debut, evident in the joy of the numerous competitors as they vied for glory for their
school. The atmosphere echoed with the energy of the youths, who set the
court, the stage and the console ablaze with their skills from the get-go. On the court, the youngsters showed their stuff as they shot and drove and dished their way to victory. On the stage, the sharpest wits and the brainiest arguments went against each other. And via the console, the fastest fingers and reflexes stole the limelight for some of the less-established schools as they more than made up for any on-court setbacks.
